Bought an Art lens and it came with a camera: SIGMA sd Quattro – 30mm f/1.4 Art Part 2 – The Rare (For Me) Unboxing Post

This is the latest in what has become a Vintage Digital series. But first, the plan. (This ended up being a long one so instead of one post with all items below I broke it up into parts. Flee now while you can those of short attention span. Save yourself.)

  1. Unpack how on Earth I got here.
  2. Unbox the thing and first thoughts.
  3. Quick sample shots and wrap up for now, expecting a few more posts to come.

Unbox the thing.

When it arrived I realized something. I have never ordered a camera directly from a manufacturer before. Some companies do not even seem to sell their cameras directly and instead often redirect you to other retailers. Well I am here to tell you that buying from SIGMA was a swift and easy process. An email on status received a swift reply. The kit arrived as expected. Score. And even better the kit was well presented and even included a nice padded case. Cool. Most often the cameras I have purchased are not presented as well. I was so impressed that I took photos as I opened it and I have not done that before… I do not think. Enough yammering here are the unboxing pics.

Included IR filter which I plan to leave in place to keep dust off of the sensor.

My first thoughts:

  • Best unboxing experience I have had.
  • This is a very well built lens. A solid chunk of a thing.
  • This is a very well built camera. Technically a mirrorless camera even though it uses DSLR SIGMA glass this camera is one solid feeling bit of kit.
  • Larger than I expected. Not terribly so. Not a problem at all. Just thought it would be a little smaller.
  • Feels great in hand.
  • Very nice padded lens bag… that will likely not see the light of day since this lens may as well be glued to the camera.
  • One battery. I predict I will need more.

Cool. Next up is part 3.

Samples shots and initial wrap up.
